Charter One will provide more than 104,000 holiday meals to greater Clevelanders facing challenging economic times
Charter One is Carving Out Hunger by donating 39 tons of turkey to the Cleveland FoodbankCLEVELAND (November 11, 2008) - In a time of great change for both Cleveland and the nation as a whole, one thing has remained consistent— Charter One and the Cleveland Foodbank’s commitment to feeding the hungry. Facing rising food costs and a particularly challenging economy, Charter One’s Carving Out Hunger campaign is especially important this holiday season.
Charter One’s donation to the Cleveland Foodbank will cover the cost of 7,124 turkeys- enough to provide 104,222 meals. The meals will be available for distribution to the Foodbank’s 451 member agencies across Northeast Ohio.
At 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 12, Charter One volunteers will prepare turkey meals for local hunger relief organizations and load supplies in the vehicles of Foodbank member agencies. The distribution will take place at the Cleveland Foodbank, 15500 S. Waterloo Road.
“Charter One is proud to work with the Cleveland Foodbank to provide more than 100,000 meals to the area’s needy this holiday season,” said Randy Stickler, President, Charter One Ohio. “The mission of the Cleveland Foodbank to alleviate hunger is a critical one, and we are glad to play a role during the holidays when the need is greatest.”
Carving Out Hunger launches the Cleveland Foodbank’s Holiday Drive to raise public awareness as well as funds to help fight hunger throughout the holidays and into the New Year. The drive begins November 12 and continues through the end of the year. The foodbank needs donations and volunteers to help make its goals possible.
“In a tough economy people rely on the Foodbank more than ever,” said Anne Campbell Goodman, Executive Director of the Cleveland Foodbank. “We are thankful to have a strong corporate partner in Charter One who generously contributes food and labor for the area’s needy.”
Mr. Regis Barrett of St. Vincent de Paul- Cleveland Foodbank partner agency- added, “We are so glad to receive the turkeys from the Foodbank. Thanks to Charter One, we are able to provide turkeys to families in our area this holiday season. People are absolutely delighted to have a warm, healthy turkey dinner.”
The Charter One Foundation has donated more than $100,000 this year— and nearly half a million dollars in the past four years— for holiday food programs to foodbanks across Ohio including the Cleveland Foodbank, Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, Mid-Ohio Foodbank, Freestore Foodbank, Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley and Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank.
